Swami Vivekanand Health Mission Society strengthened their women empowerment intervention when on 12th July 2022, a sanitary pad making machine was inaugurated in the Dharmawala hospital thus emboldening the Menstrual Hygiene program being run by the Society since 2019.
The machine was inaugurated by senior surgeon of Government hospital Vikasnagar, Dr. N. S. Chauhan by performing the ritual of breaking of coconut followed by traditional puja and chanting of Vedic hymns. The sanitary pad machine was then switched on by Dr. Chauhan and he handed over the first sanitary pad to one of the women labourers who were also present.
The ceremony had the presence of Secretary of Society Dr. Anuj Singhal, Executive Committee Member Dr. Tarashree among other hospital Doctors and staff. Also the occasion had the presence of Pradhans, ICDS Supervisors, Anganwadi and ASHA workers of villages in and around Dharmawala.
This inauguration was followed by a small function in the meeting hall of the hospital where everyone later assembled. The function began with ceremonial lighting of the lamps by Dr. N. S. Chauhan, Dr. Anuj Singhal and Dr. Tarashree Singhal followed by welcoming of Dr. N. S. Chauhan with bouquet and presentation of a memento by Dr. Sandhya and Dr. Rinki.
The gathering was then shown a documentary showcasing the Society’s journey over the years followed by a welcome speech given by Dr. Anuj. Dr. Tarashree then briefed the audience about the Menstrual Hygiene program being run by the Society and explained the importance of the sanitary pad making machine in the intervention. The function ended with a vote of thanks address by Dr. Deepak followed by refreshments to all the participants. All the women participants were also distributed a packet each of the sanitary pad as a complimentary gesture by the hospital.
