“CMEs (Continuing Medical Education)/Case discussion in form of Webinar Sessions”
Swami Vivekanand Health Mission (SVHM) Society has been providing medical and health services through their network of 8 hospitals in various remote areas of Uttarakhand and also these hospitals have been organising multi-disciplinary and multispeciality camps on regular basis.
The SVCH (Swami Vivekananda Charitable Hospital) Doctors when faced with any difficulty in diagnosis and management consult the super speciality and speciality Doctors associated with the SVHM society by means of direct phone calls as well as through the various WhatsApp groups on different specialities.
The lockdown due to ongoing COVID 19 pandemics witnessed a slight fall in OPD patients in these hospitals though they kept on providing their regular OPD and emergency services. The SVHM society thought of utilising this lean period for enhancing the skills of the SVCH Doctors by learning about new and developing areas of various medical fields in context of the common health issues and problems being faced in daily OPDs and emergencies.

The society planned holding of virtual CMEs/case discussion in form of webinar in which all the SVCH Doctors are connected along with the speciality expert by using the cloud platform applications like Google Meet and in which video and audio conferencing and chats can be conducted without any fee. The benefit of a CME is that it allows a practitioner to learn and discover viable ways to improve on the patient care using latest treatment modalities.
We began initially with case presentations on various common health problem topics by SVCH Doctors in the presence of the specialist/expert who would then give his views, opinion and guidance. Buoyed by the positive response and success we then switched over to webinars on various topics by Specialist’s associated with SVHM society. These experts readily agreed, spared their precious time and provided wholehearted support to the SVCH Doctor’s by holding virtual classrooms inclusive of lectures, PowerPoint presentations and slide shows on the allotted topic which were chosen on the basis of common ailments and diseases being encountered in these hospitals.
The SVHM hospitals have so far held 4 case discussion sessions and 9 webinars which had the full participation of 20 Doctors from the various SVCH centres apart from the respective subject expert. This new initiative has been hugely beneficial to the SVCH Doctors who are now employing these learnings for better patient care and services.
